clock is ticking

One of the frustrations of this Covid 19 Pandemic season is the lack a voice that gives clear direction, that facilitates our confronting brutal facts yet retaining hope, that calls us to courage, unity, and kindness.  My frustration is compounded by the fact that in point this out 4 fingers point at me as I have no solutions to offer a world that is locked in fear and confusion.  As I pondered over this issue, I recalled something I had recently read about the Apostle Paul.  The story is found in Acts 27:13-44 where Paul is on his way to Rome to stand trial before Emperor Nero following false accusation by some Jews.  The ship transporting Paul and other prisoners to Rome encountered a fierce storm and despite the expertise and efforts of the sailors they could not steer the ship to safety.  Focused on trying to save the ship and now filled with despair, fear and fatigue the sailors had not eaten for days, death seemed inevitable. Luke, who had travelled with Paul and captured the details of this journey for posterity, said “When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved (Acts 27:20)”. There was a need for a leader to not only give direction but hope as well.

That was what Paul provided as Luke noted; After they had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss. 22 But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. 23 Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me 24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ 25 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. 26 Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island.” (Acts 27:21-2)What made enable Paul to speak into the situation was the time he spent with God who through an angel laid out the way things would pan out.

Globally, we are all in a storm and no solutions seems to be able to deal with the waves of disease, economic collapse, environmental degradation, and societal crisis.  We as men of God are the ones to speak into this situation.  To do so we need to spend time with God in prayer, in His word and in fellowship with other believers.  As we invest, I am confident that God will give us the word(s) to speak to our families, communities, countries, and the world at large.  Martin Luther King Jr said in his last speech: “Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars”.  The Apostle Paul wrote “For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed” (Romans 8:19). As star we are to lead people to Christ, as the star in the east led the wise men.  As Astar told us The Star That Leads To The Star.  It’s your time Bruh, it’s my time Bruh, it’s our time to show the way. Christ freed we Lions to lead and God is looking to strengthen us: For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him 2 Chronicles 16:9.
