“We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there “is” such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.”Rev Martin Luther King
The statement above was by Reverend Martin Luther king over 50 years ago but the ring true today as they did 50 years ago. Today the world reels and stumbles under the battering of a host of crises from climatic catastrophes, consequences of racism and the focal on the Covid 19 pandemic that has upended the world. As of today, over 15 million people have been infected globally and of those 630,343 have died. Kenya has recorded 14,805 infections and 260 deaths. We probably know someone who has been infected and some of us have lost a family member, friend, or colleague. My heart goes out to you in your time of grief and pain. I pray that our God, the God of all comfort will comfort you, encourage, strengthen, and carry you.
As I have reflected this week about this season we find ourselves these words would not let me go: The Fierce Urgency of Now. The Covid 19 pandemic has brought to the fore the attitude that I needed to have and must continue to have going forward, one of urgency. I asked myself, of the 630,343 people who died how many did so without knowing Christ, to an eternity without God? In 2017 56 million or 153,424 people of various causes from disease to old age. Again, the question how many died without knowing Christ? How many of the 7.7 billion alive today are imprisoned by sin and its attendant issues unaware of the freedom that can be found in Christ. Covid 19 has shown me in glaring terms that the words of Rev King ring true; there “is” such a thing as being too late. I am called to action, to fulfill the great commission making disciples of all nations. So, one step at time I am beginning to engage with those in my circle of influence, using the platforms available to me, trusting in the grace and power made available by the Holy Spirit. There is much to do and I pray that you too will sense The Fierce Urgency of Now and take your step
