Thinking about a crisis I faced about 5 years ago where I had suffered burn out that led me to resign from work as I could no longer function and at the same time a business my friends and I had built, which was to be my retirement plan, collapsed. I was discouraged and depressed, and life did not seem worth living. I learnt valuable lessons in by recovery journey that I am applying now
The core is what anchors you in the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world we are now living in. Is built up of your values, your purpose, your vision. A key part of my core was my faith in God. In this season engage your core.
A wise man wrote that two are better than one because they perform better, help each other and fight together. This the time to build and lean on community for encourage and support. In my dark days 2 of my close friends walked with me and were instrumental in giving me hope.
My bias and it may be yours is to do something, to act. I learnt the hard way the need to rest. After falling every time, I tried to move I accepted to rest and re-energize. As you rest take time to reflect. Reflection should include an audit which shows what needs cleaning up. Reflection helped me identify and understand weaknesses I had long ignored that had compromised me. I got insights on how to address them which I needed to do if I was to get out of the hole. Apart from identifying what needs to change reflection also enables you to identify trends/opportunities you can take advantage of. Take this time forced on us to rest and reflect. Generate energy for the battle ahead of you. It may seem you are just sitting around twiddling your thumbs but let this encourage you

How you do things has been disrupted. Build new rhythms. In this season I have sought to have a rhythm, so I do not just wake up late and bum around. As a family we are doing the same
Spend time learning. Read, listen to podcasts, Ted Talks. Engage with friends, experts, advisors. Do what you can to learn to prepare for what will be the new normal once the restrictions are lifted. Acknowledge this is not a reset it as re-invention. There will be a new normal and to thrive you must change to take advantage of the new opportunities that will come. Use the knowledge you gain to plan, to build your 2.0 Strategy and begin to execute what you can.
Everything in you maybe shouting for answers now but you will need accept that the answers are likely to be slow in coming. You may also look at yourself in the mirror and wonder how you were so unprepared for this mess. Be gentle with yourself, cut yourself some slack. More people than could imagine are in the same situation. Compassion and empathy will be powerful tools as you interact with yourself and others.
It is difficult to be grateful in a crisis, but I found gratitude strengthened me and built the resilience I need to endure. I encourage to begin each day or close each day by noting 3 things that you are grateful for and as you nurture the attitude of gratitude you will build your resilience.
Set aside to do things you enjoy. Recreation reduces stress, refreshes, and energizes.
When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body. Regular exercise has been proven to reduce stress, ward of anxiety and feelings of depression, boost self-esteem and improve sleep.
Sharing my journey gave me perspective and as I would find encouraged others. It gave others permission to share and in sharing to heal, to move forward. I felt useful.
